Black Forest Bars

Total Time: 38 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 28 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 24
  • 1 (18 1/4 ounce) chocolate cake mix
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice
  • 1 (12 ounce) cherry pastry filling (not pie filling)

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 350°f.
  • 2 combine cake mix and cocoa.
  • 3 cut in butter until crumbly.
  • 4 add eggs and cherry juice; mix well.
  • 5 spread half in a greased 13 x 9" metal pan.
  • 6 drop pastry filling by small spoonfuls to within 1/2" of edges. spread gently to cover chocolate mixture.
  • 7 drop remaining chocolate mixture by small spoonfuls and gently spread to cover filling. make sure it touches the pan on all sides or it will shrink when it bakes.
  • 8 bake 25 - 28 minutes.
