Black Pepper And Onion Scones

Total Time: 32 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 12 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 3/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup margarine or 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon black pepper, coarsely ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 1 egg

Recipe

  • 1 heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • 2 in a small skillet, saute onions in margarine until crisp tender; set aside. cool slightly.
  • 3 lightly spoon flour into measuring cup and level off with a knife.
  • 4 in a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, pepper and salt; blend well.
  • 5 add whipping cream, egg and sauteed onions; stir just until moistened.
  • 6 on floured surface, knead dough gently 5 or 6 times.
  • 7 place on ungreased cookie sheet; press into an 8" circle about 1/2 inch thick.
  • 8 cut into 8 wedges; separate slightly.
  • 9 bake at 400 degrees for 12-16 minutes or until very lightly browned.
  • 10 brush with melted butter or margarine.
  • 11 serve warm.
  • 12 wonderful with soup!
