Almond Toffee Bars

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 25 mins

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter, plus 1 tbsp. softened and divided
  • 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup chopped almonds, toasted

Recipe

  • 1 cream 3/4 cup butter and sugar; beat in egg yolk and extracts, mixing well.
  • 2 blend in flour and salt.
  • 3 spread dough evenly onto bottom of ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
  • 4 bake at 350°f for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • 5 melt chocolate in double boiler over simmering water.
  • 6 remove from heat and add remaining 1 tablespoon butter.
  • 7 beat until chocolate is glossy.
  • 8 spread over baked crust and sprinkle with almonds.
  • 9 cool to allow chocolate to set.
  • 10 cut into bars.
