Baked Cherry Custards

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 225 g madeira cake, cut into 1 cm cubes
  • 1/2 cup cherry jam
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 180°c.
  • 2 divide chopped cake between 4 x 1 cup ovenproof ramekins.
  • 3 top each with a heaped tablespoon of jam.
  • 4 place milk in pot over low heat and heat till warm, about 5 minutes.
  • 5 whisk eggs and sugar in a jug and gradually whisk in heated milk.
  • 6 pour milk into ramekins and place these in a baking dish.
  • 7 pour boiling water into baking dish, halway up sides of ramekins.
  • 8 bake for 30 minutes till golden and set.
  • 9 remove dish from oven and remove desserts from baking dish very carefully.
  • 10 cool 10 minutes and serve.
